Frank V. Tursi, a revered chronicler of the Winston-Salem story, returns with his new book, Tar Heel Boys of Summer.
You're invited to a special evening with Frank V. Tursi, longtime writer with the Winston-Salem Journal and author Winston-Salem: A History. Tursi relocated to the coast more than two decades ago, and he's been busy. Now, he's coming back to town with a new book, Tar Heel Boys of Summer: North Carolina's Major League Ball Players. Co-sponsored by MUSE Winston-Salem and Bookmarks, Tursi will share highlights from his new book, which includes profiles of major league ballplayers with Winston-Salem and Forsyth County roots such as Ernie Shore (who played with Babe Ruth and returned home to become Forsyth County sheriff), General Crowder (one of the winningest pitchers of the Depression era), and legendary "spitballing dentist," Dr. Fred Anderson. You'll also have a chance to hear about what he's been up to since he left Winston-Salem, and his thoughts about how our community has changed in the years since he wrote one the most authoritative accounts of Winston-Salem history.
The event is FREE, but registration is required through Eventbrite.
Doors will open at 6PM at the newly renovated home of MUSE Winston-Salem at 226 S. Liberty Street. Program will start at 6:30PM. Parking is available on site.
Following the event, the author will be available to sign copies of the book. Pre-purchase your book now through Bookmarks at this link, and it will be waiting for you at the event. Additional copies will also be available for purchase at the event.
